Amanda Todd…

16 Oct

There has been a significant amount of coverage in the media recently concerning the suicide of 15 year old Amanda Todd…

The Canadian teenager took her life after being hounded for several years by anonymous tormentors, who incessantly followed her from school to school leaving her desperately isolated.

This tragic account has really highlighted the extent of the problem we are faced with… when children are taking their own lives in the face of cyber bullies it seems obvious that some form of control needs to be put in place to protect victims like Amanda. Perhaps if they were already in effect she wouldn’t have been pushed to such extreme lengths?

It is so sad that such a young person can be effected so badly by people she never even met! It makes you wonder what they actually said to her to push her into this. The bullies must have something seriously wrong with them to push a young girl to comitting suicide, probably just jealousy. Maybe bullies have some sort of mental issue that makes them to want to hurt others.

To take your own life you would have to force your mind and body into doing something that it is not made to do. Depression is a form of mental disease and maybe as most people who take their life are depressed you could blame their ‘mental’ problems for this as a ‘sane’ mind could not take this action.

I’m sure there is more that everyone could do to try and prevent bullying but then again I’m sure that bullies will always find a way around it, no matter how hard the internet/parents/companies try and prevent it.

Thank you Katie, that’s a really interesting perspective! Should social networking really be blamed for a pre-existing personal issue? Society has bred a culture of cyber bullies but I agree with you, perhaps some are more susceptible to its effects than others?

      Thanks again for your comment!
